Newcastle University societies struggle under effects of Covid-19

NEWCASTLE University societies are failing to adapt to a successful online style, following coronavirus restrictions.

A year after initial social-distancing advice, some societies, such as Newcastle University’s Physics society, are still struggling.

Membership, President of the Physics Society Michael McGrory says, is the hardest to retain.

In a statement released by Newcastle University Student’s Union Activities Officer, Hannah Finney, the online events are in place for “those of you who might not be in Newcastle,” and “those of you who might not want to mingle just yet.”

Preparations for in-person events are slow, and some, such as McGrory, worry about the impact this will have on the future of their student society.
