Police 2

A 20-year-old woman has been sexually assaulted by a man believed to be a taxi driver.

The incident happened at around 3am on Monday (May 4) on Osborne Road in Jesmond, Newcastle.

The woman was not injured in the incident but was left shaken.

Police officers are carrying out enquiries into the assault.

It is believed two men were walking down Lilly Avenue at the time and may have spoken to the woman after the incident.

Officers are keen for the men to get in contact as they may be key witnesses and have vital information to help identify the alleged taxi driver.

Neighbourhood Inspector Neil Brotherton, of Northumbria Police, said: “Enquiries are being carried out into the incident and we would ask any witnesses to come forward.

“In particular, we’re keen to speak to two men who spoke to the woman after the incident as they could be key witnesses.

“I would like to stress these two men are being treated as witnesses, they may have seen the offender and be able us to identify him.

“Officers carry out regular patrols in the area to offer reassurance to residents and I would urge anyone concerned to speak to an officer.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
