Sunderland City Council has raised its parking costs by 10p per hour.
The charges have been put in place in an attempt to balance the council’s budgets, following revelations that they were costing more money than they generate.
These changes, which were enacted on February 2, will appear in all of the council owned car parks, including the popular car park at The Bridges shopping centre.
The council, who runs more than 3000 parking spaces in Sunderland, attributed the change to the necessity to balance their budget and offset costs after a five year freeze on prices
Despite the increase, Thursdays will remain free after 3:00pm in all council run car parks, and after 5:30pm at the Bridges.#####
