A 29-year-old man has been jailed for six years over the rape of an 18-year-old girl.
Rajedmiah Miah, 29, appeared before Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, February 6 after previously pleading guilty to rape.
The rape happened in the early hours of Sunday, September 14 2014, where the victim had been celebrating her 18th birthday in Newcastle city centre with friends.
The group had been out to several bars and at around 2am her friends left the victim alone in the Pink Rooms nightclub, on Westmoreland Road in Newcastle. Miah approached her after leaving the nightclub while looking for her friends, and offered to help get her a taxi home.
Instead he took her to an address in the Westgate Road area where the rape happened.
DI Sharon Chatterton, of Northumbria Police’s Public Protection said: “Miah took advantage of a vulnerable woman he had pretended to help, but instead took her to an address where he then raped her.
“I’d like to praise the victim for her courage and bravery throughout what was been an incredibly difficult time for her and I hope the sentence passed today, and the fact Miah is behind bars where he belongs, means she can move forward with her life.
Miah was jailed for six years and has been told to sign the sex offender register for life.#####
