Sunderland’s Christmas light switch on is officially moving to a new position in the city centre.
The move is due to the event attracting larger audiences over the last few years. This year’s event will be held on November 13 at the Crowtree site in the city centre.
Coun John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s portfolio holder for public health, wellness and culture said: “Our annual Christmas Lights Switch On signals the start of a wide range of festive celebrations across the city.
“This fantastic family occasion is always fun and I encourage everyone, young and old to come along this year and join in the count-down to the Mayor and his special guests turning on the city centre Christmas lights.
“This annual celebration also helps to launch late night shopping in the city centre, which will continue right up until Christmas.”
The event will start at 6pm with festive entertainment from live music to a spectacular firework display.
A special celebrity guest will switch on the lights at 7pm, and is yet to be announced.
