Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of valuables from a parked car in Sunderland.

The incident happened before 11.46am on October 6 on Guisborough Street.

The VW Touareg V6 was left insecure, and thieves stole a Louis Vuitton handbag, a Gucci belt and a Ralph Lauren jacket.

Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Laverick, said: “We want to remind motorists to take a few minutes to make sure your property is not left out in plain view but put away out of sight in a boot and that vehicles are locked when you park up. These simple measures can reduce your risk of falling victim to a thief.

“We know opportunist thieves look to take advantage by trying door handles of vehicles to find those left unlocked. Don’t make it easy for them. Also if you do see someone acting suspiciously around parked cars then please ring the police straightaway – you could help to prevent a crime.”

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time or who may have seen or heard something suspicious.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 455 of 06/10/14 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.#####
