Hendon Young People’s Project gets new boxing club

Boxing Gloves Hanging on Ropes

Hendon Young People’s Project are giving young people a chance to learn boxing and get fit with their own gym.

British cruiserweight champion Jon Lewis-Dickinson officially opened the fitness zone at the charity’s base in Church Street East.

Donations and grants from Northumbria Police, Sunderland City Council and housing company Gentoo paid for the 14-foot ring, and Sunderland Sport and Leisure has loaned pieces of Wellness Suite equipment to the centre.

The new boxing club will also incorporate Hendon Elite ABC the former Sunderland East End Boxing Club.

We spoke to Project manager Richard duggan who tells us what this can do for the city
