RNLI patrols to return this weekend

RNLI lifeguards will be returning to the region this weekend to keep watch over seven beaches in Tyneside and three in Wearside. The patrols are vital to provide peace of mind to beach goers for the bank holiday weekend. They will now run until 7th September between the times of 10am to 6pm.

During the hot summer months last year the team responded to 1711 incidents that can range from anything to minor cuts and grazes through to performing major first aid or life saving rescue. Their role is 95% preventative.

Carl Harris, Lifeguard manager spoke to SR news with essential advise for the coming Summer ” choose a lifeguard patrolled beach  and stay between the read and yellow. Remember to always ask the guard for tide times and when it’s safe to go in the water.”#####
