Grosvenor Casino in Sunderland is to host the first FIFA tournament in Sunderland with support from GAME.
Sunderland’s first ever FIFA tournament is being held at the Grosvenor Casino in Sunderland, with 4 heats you have not only one chance of becoming the champion, you have 4. The tournament is the first of many for Sunderland, with them now being a yearly event. So make sure you pencil it into your diaries.
Suzanne Young, organiser of the event said: “We felt that it was something that was lacking in the city and our casino would be a great place to hold the event. This will become a yearly thing.
“We have huge support from GAME in Sunderland, donating prizes and helping to run it to make sure everything runs smoothly and all the games are fair.”
The winner will receive the Ultimate FIFA Champions Trophy with their name engraved on it, £250 from the casino and lots of other prizes donated by game for other players.
With no girls yet signed up it looks like it’s going to be one for the boys, but Suzanne said: “We would like to attract some girls to come and compete so that it spices things up a bit. The first five girls who to sign up will receive a glass of bubbly on arrival.”
Christopher Rodenby, 20, said: “What boy doesn’t love FIFA. I think this is a great way to gather the community as Sunderland can feel quite lonely at times being a big city.”
The competition began on the April 22 but, with four heats there’s still a chance to enter. The entry price is £5, which includes a hot dog and a pint of Stella. Participants must take photographic ID as the competition is over 18s only.
