It is a fun family event, encouraging children and families who take part to run, walk or toddle their way along the one mile route around Sunderland’s award winning Mowbray Park.
The run takes place from 11am and is open to children aged 3 – 7 if they are accompanied by an adult, and children aged 8 – 10 who can run it by themselves. Everyone taking part is encouraged to run in fancy dress.
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said: “The Big Mini Fun Run is one of many fantastic running events for people of all ages and abilities happening in Sunderland across that weekend.
“Once again we are hosting the event in the award winning Mowbray Park right here in the city centre.
“This event is a great way for young children and their parents to join in and have some good healthy fun. Last year it was fantastic to see so many people turning up in fancy dress and making it such a colourful event. This year we are looking forward to seeing many familiar faces coming back as well as those joining in for the first time.”
Regular participants who take part in the Sunderland BIG Events include Wendy McKellar and her two daughters Katie and Grace.
Wendy said: “We love the BIG Events and look forward to them every year. We’ve put the word out around some of our friends and we usually all come along together as the children all enjoy the day out with their friends. I think we are very lucky in Sunderland to have things like this going on.”
The BIG Mini Fun Run costs £3 per person and entries on the day are available at registration from 10.15 am. Everyone will receive an Active Sunderland medal when they finish.
The next BIG Event in the programme is the fantastic Sunderland BIG Bike Ride which takes place on May 17 and 18.
