Sunderland Casino excited by local talent as G-Factor final approaches

Sunderland’s Grosvenor Casino is hoping to unearth real talent in the area as their G-Factor competition nears its final stages.

Following last week’s heats, the singing contest is now approaching its semi-final stage ahead of the grand final on April 11.

Business Development Manager, Suzanne Young said: “We are very keen to encourage and unearth local talent through the competition.”

“We know the area has had a number of X-factor winners and finalists and really we want to give people the chance to showcase their talents and also just try and give the people of Sunderland something to talk about.

“Grosvenor Casino Sunderland knows there is amazing talent here in Sunderland and we want to encourage this and generate a ‘buzz about town’.

“We are excited about this event as it’s the first Grosvenor Casino Sunderland singing competition.”

The final is expected to showcase six of the best amateur talents in the area, with the winner claiming £1000 in prize money, the runner-up will receive £500 and the act placed third taking £200.

The Casino has revealed that a very special guest judge will have the final say on the placements, although they would not disclose who the special guest would be. All the preliminary rounds will be decided by a public vote.

Contestant from Friday’s heat Laura Johnson said: “It was a good way for contestants to build confidence and raise self-esteem.

“The voting system was there to be abused but I still felt like the competition gave us a great place to show off our talents.”

“We each got to sing twice, so people got to see a bit more of you than in similar events, so it meant the voters could judge you a bit better if you were a bit weaker with one song.”
