Ex-Sunderland University student on missing Malaysian flight

A former graduate of the University of Sunderland is one of the passengers aboard the missing Malaysian airlines flight.

Huan Peen Chan, studied Engineering and Computing at the University between 1992 and 1995. He is 45-years old.

A popular man, his friends and associates had nicknamed him “Jesse”. He was involved with the Free Church in the city of Sunderland during his time in England where he played the organ.

The friends that he made on Wearside would regularly go to visit him in Asia.

A spokesperson for the University of Sunderland said: ‘We are deeply concerned to hear reports that one of our graduates, Huan Peen Chan may be one of the passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

‘Although we are not able to confirm these reports at this time, we wish to pass on our thoughts to the family at this difficult time.’

Flight MH370 mysteriously disappeared after taking off in Kuala Lumpar on March 8. It was heading to Beijing International Airport. As of March 22, there have been no confirmed sightings.
