Sunderland’s Empire Theatre will play host to the West End musical, Wicked.
The Empire will host the spectacular show for four weeks from March 31 to April 25 next year, as it makes its North East debut.
Wicked is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West which runs parallel to L. Frank Baum’s classic story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The musical tells the tale of two unlikely friends, Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. It is told from their perspective and the plot begins before and continues after Dorothy’s arrival in Oz. They struggle through various problems resulting from their opposing personalities and rivalry over the same love interest.
The cast for the show is yet to be announced, but it is sure to be another smash-hit production.
The news follows on from the recent announcement that the Lion King will be showing in September.
Wicked is on at the Sunderland Empire Theatre from March 31 to April 25 2015 and tickets, starting at £20, will go on general sale on March 31 from 10am.
