Sunderland AFC head coach Gus Poyet has shown his support for the Foundation of Light campaign The Red and White City.
The initiative has started today and the SAFC charity hopes to have a sea of red and white across the region with decorated houses, shops, offices and schools, showing club colours in the week building up to the final at Wembley on Sunday.
Mr Poyet said: “Sunderland is an incredible place and everybody here loves football no matter how old or young- everybody breathes football.
“We want to make everybody proud and enjoy this occasion. I know everybody will show their support for in the build up to the final and on the day.”
Business and organisations taking part so far are Highview Nursery and Town End Academy, Lickety Split, Jasprint, University of Sunderland Gateway, Seaburn Dean, Easington Lane, Mill Hill, Bernard Gilpin Primary, Cotsford Junior Schools.
Those who take part in the campaign can also share photos of their decorations or red and white clothes by emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org or tweeting @SAFCOfficial using the hashtag #daretodream, with the chance to win free tickets to an SAFC game at the Stadium of Light.
The Foundation of Light will also be fundraising through the campaign with participants being asked to make a £1 donation to the charity.
This can be collected by participating schools or businesses, or donated directly via a special Just Giving page – www.justgiving.com/safc.
Proceeds will be used to support the charity’s wide range of sport and education-based programmes.
