Entries for the Sunderland AFC Foundation of Light charity’s annual Lambton 10k and 3k run are now open.
The route for the both courses will be Lambton Estate in Durham, which is the setting for the BBC’s drama The Paradise.
The event, sponsored by Cestria Community Housing, is to take place on June 29.
Jemma Garrett, Events Coordinator at the Foundation of Light, said: “The Lambton 10k and 3k event is one of the most unique on the running calendar and certainly offers one of the best backdrops.
“Every year competitive runners and fun runners from across the North East line up to take part and we’re hoping for a record turnout in 2014.”
The 10k run is open for competitive and non-competitive runners, attracting about 700 entrants, while the 3k one is for families and young children – having about 300 on average.
All the money received from the entries will help fund the Foundation of Light’s range of sport and educational programmes, which benefit more that 42,000 young people in the North East.
Claire Buchan, Senior PR Consultant of Sorted Public Relations and Event Management Ltd, said: “We’re hoping to match previous figures, which have been 700 on average, for the 10k and 300 for the 3k.”
“Proceeds will be used to help fund the Foundation of Light’s wide range of sport and education-based programmes, which benefit more than 42,000 young people and families across the North East every year, including thousands in Sunderland.”
The charity was launched in 2001 by former SAFC Chairman Sir Bob Murray CBE and is officially registered to Sunderland Football Club.
It uses the passion of football to inspire and educate young people and their families in the North East.
Entry prices start from £12 per person for the 10k and from £6 for the 3k.
