The 2014 Sunderland University Student Union’s “Raise and Give” (RAG) week kicks off today with plenty of activities promised for students.
Student volunteers have spent today collecting for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) across both campuses for “Wear it Red Day” before a charity piggy bank tonight at North Shore, which includes fun fair style games and a gunge tank.
The rest of the week will include a bake sale tomorrow at Murray Library, a Bridges Shopping Centre “surprise” on Wednesday, a darts night on Thursday and Valentine’s day roses sale on Friday.
Last year’s RAG week raised over £1200 and Student Union Education and Welfare officer Chloe Jackson is hoping to improve that for this year.
“There’s something for everyone during RAG week,” she said. “It’s about students having fun and raising money for good causes at the same time.
There are plenty of ways for students to get involved during the week by donating money or volunteering and taking part in activities.”
As well as the BHF, the money raised will go towards charities such as Meningitis UK, North East Autism Society, and Grace House North East.
Students wanting to find out more about RAG week are advised to go on the Sunderland Student Union website, the sunderlandsurag Facebook page or the Twitter address @sunderland_rag.
