Just over five hours still remain on transfer deadline day, but it has already been a hectic day on Wearside.
Midfielder Lee Cattermole will stay at the Stadium of Light after Sunderland rejected the advances of fellow relegation rivals Stoke.
Earlier, Liam Bridcutt finally completed his transfer from Championship side Brighton. The midfielder has signed a three and a half year deal at the Stadium of Light. He was the 5th new arrival for Sunderland this transfer window.
Four players have also departed on loan. Defender Modibo Diakite has joined joined Fiorentina until the end of the season. He was followed out of the door by highly rated youngster Duncan Watmore, who will link up with former Sunderland manager Terry Butcher at Hibernian. Last season’s derby day hero David Vaughan has seen his loan at Nottingham Forest extended until the end of the campaign. And winger David Moberg Karlsson has joined Kilmarnock, also until the end of the season.
The agent of striker Jozy Altidore has rubbished claims the American could join PSV Eindhoven before the deadline, saying: “There is no truth to it. Jozy is happy at Sunderland.”
