Wearsiders met Sunderland’s only Oscar winner David Parfitt at the University of Sunderland’s Murray Library on Thursday night.
About 80 people was given a special screening of his latest film, The Whisper Times.
It is a story, set during the First World War, about a newspaper that was published and distributed by frontline soldiers.
“When I read the script, I thought it was fantastic and got attached to it,” said Mr Parfitt.
The film had a TV premier last September and is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in 2016, to coincide with the upcoming 100 year anniversary of the Battle of The Somme in 1916.
Despite being done on a modest budget, and turned around in less than four weeks with a small number of production staff, Mr Parfitt was insistent that the script and production process for the film went through the same rigorous process as his previous projects such as My Week with Marilyn.
Mr Parfit also commented that his production company had five or six other projects currently in the pipeline, and their next release will most likely be an animated Polish co-production about Vincent Van Gogh’s oil paintings.#####
