Police intervene as man threatens to jump from Queen Alexandra Bridge

Northumbria police officers have safely removed a man who was on the wrong side of the railings of Queen Alexandra Bridge today.

The police were informed about the incident at 2.50pm, and after having spoken to the man, they safely took him away of the bridge at 4.30pm.

The man was taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital to be checked over.

A section of the footpath of the bridge was closed but the bridge was not.
