The collision happened on Vicarage Lane at 6:30pm on Wednesday evening.

An investigation is underway and the case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Chief Superintendent Chris Thomson said: “A full investigation will be carried out to establish the circumstances of the collision and extra officers will be in the area to inform residents about the incident and offer them reassurance and answer any concerns they may have.”

The road between Warwick Terrace and Lincoln Avenue junction to Blind Lane was closed but has since re-opened.
