New clock for Wheatsheaf Gyratory

Councilors have agreed to shell out £20,000 for a new clock at the Wheatsheaf Gyratory in Monkwearmouth.

The clock, which will be red with a white face, will also require yearly funding from the council’s revenue fund for maintenance.

The proposal was presented to a meeting of North Sunderland councillors on Wednesday after discussions by a special clock subcommittee, who said the chosen design was the most cost effective.

The clock will be built on green space next to Rosebery Street, and is expected to be fully installed by April.#####
