A Sunderland family are pushing a campaign to bring their husband and father home with a charity walk this weekend.

In 2016, John Lindsay’s life changed after a day out with his family. He suffered an epileptic seizure at his home in Silksworth, resulting in him falling down his stairs.

The incident left John wheelchair bound –  with paralysis from the waist down and in need of 24 hour care.

However John’s wife, Claire, is hoping to raise £300,000 to find a house suitable for John’s needs and bring their family back together.

“It’s quite hard to put into words. It just means so much to us both. How do you live without your soul mate? It’s like half of you missing,” Claire said.

His family and friends will come together in a 12 mile walk from his care home in Peterlee to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, September 9, ahead of the 3pm kick-off against Sheffield United.

The charity walk will begin at 7am from The Hawthornes in Peterlee and it is hoped it will take four hours, with the aim of reaching the Stadium of Light reception at 12.30pm.

There are three designated stop off points along the way in order for people to join in or show their support.

The first stop is at the Village Inn in Easington at approximately 8.15am.

The second will be at The Times Inn, in Dalton-Le-Dale, Seaham at approximately 9.30am, while the final stop of the course will be at the Ryhope village green, opposite the Albion pub at approximately 11am.

More information can be found on the stops here.

The walk is available for everyone to join in and refreshments will be available for a small fee along the way.
